About Uganda

Uganda has experienced a number of changes from the time when it was declared a British Protectorate in 1860. A number of developments have occurred in the areas of social.economic and political establishment. However the area that has seen significant changes is the political governance of Uganda. Since 1962 ,when Uganda attained her independence from Britain Uganda has so far seen a total number of 7 presidents with 8 regimes.

Preparing for your trip to Uganda

The VISA

Note that this information is just a guide only and rates are subject to change. A VISA to Uganda is issued at Uganda Missions abroad and at the Entebbe International Airport. Requirements for Ugandan visas differ from country to Uganda, are subject to change and each visa application is treated as an individual case. Nationals of the countries listed below are exempted from visa requirements for travel to Uganda. They do,however,need to have a current passport issued by their respective countries.

Members of COMESA;Angola, Comorso, Eritrea, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles Islands, Swaziland,Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Others exempted are:Antigua & Barbuda,The Bahamas,Barbados,Belize,Fiji,Gamba,Grenada,Jamaica,Lesotho,Malta,Sierra Leone,Singapore,Solomon Island,St Vincent & the Grenadines,Tonga,Vunautu,Italy(only diplomatic passport holders) and Cyprus.

HEALTH

Before visiting Uganda, you may need to get vaccinations and medications for vaccine-preventable diseases and other diseases you might be at risk while in Uganda: (Note: Your doctor or health-care provider will determine what you will need,depending on factors such as your health and immunization history,areas of the country you will be visiting,and planned activities).

To have the most benefit,see a health-care provider at least 4-6 weeks before your trip to allow time for your vaccine to prevent malaria,if you need it. We recommend that you see a health-care provider who specializes in Travel medicine . Find a travel medicine clinic near you. If you have a medical condition,you should also share your travel plans with your doctor for those other medical issues.

Be sure that your routing vaccinations(such as measels/mumps/rubella(MMR)vaccine, diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT) vaccines,poliovirus vaccine,etc) are upto date. Yellow Fever,Hepatitis,Meningitis and Typhoid shots must also be upto date.

Uganda is a Malaria high risk country. Note: It is recommended that you take a light anti-malaria drug like Fansidar before your travel,or as directed by your doctor. In case of malaria infection,please do not hesitate to visit an authorized drug shop for medication like Antimethel, Coatenum and Antinum should as Chloroquin is NO longer an effective anti-malaria drug in Uganda and should not be taken to prevent malaria in this region.
